About me - Laura Greenbank

My
Story

Get to Know Me

I wear many hats in life—Mum, step-mum, wife, daughter, grand-daughter, sister, former teacher, sports player, and now, counselling/coaching therapist. Each role has shaped me in different ways, and each comes with its own joys, challenges, and lessons.

For many years, I worked as a teacher, guiding young minds and supporting families. It was deeply rewarding, but over time, I realised that my true calling was to support mental health in a different, more personal way. I wanted to step into the spaces where people feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure—and help them find a way forward.

I’d describe myself as a high-functioning adult, but I know what it’s like to juggle more and more responsibilities and still feel like it’s never enough. There were times when the weight of everything I cared about felt almost too heavy to manage. It was through my own therapeutic work that I began to understand and navigate these challenges. That experience was transformative—and it sparked a deep desire in me to offer that same support to others.

Every session I hold, every conversation I have, is informed not just by my professional training, but by the real, lived experiences of life: the messy, beautiful, exhausting, and rewarding parts. I know what it feels like to strive, to care, to struggle, and ultimately, to find resilience. And that’s what I bring to my work as a therapist—a commitment to meet people where they are, with understanding, compassion, and practical support.

Psychotherapist & Counsellor

Walking On Beach

I believe that every individual—whether adult or child—has the innate capacity to grow and change when they feel genuinely supported with empathy, acceptance, and understanding. My approach blends therapeutic depth and counselling with practical coaching, creating a space where clients can process past experiences while building confidence, setting meaningful goals, and moving forward with clarity and self-belief. I have a particular interest in supporting people who are high-functioning—those who “keep it together” on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside—helping them feel seen, heard, and supported.

My journey into psychotherapy and counselling developed gradually through years of supporting others in education and mental wellbeing roles. I became drawn to the emotional stories behind people’s experiences—the moments of struggle, resilience, and transformation. This curiosity, combined with a desire to offer deeper, more specialised support, led me to formal training as a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. I now hold a Level 7 Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am completing my Master’s research year, focusing on mental health and the impact of therapeutic intervention.

Warmth, honesty, and compassion underpin everything I do. Whether you’re managing anxiety, experiencing bouts of depression, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, or simply wanting to understand yourself on a deeper level, I offer a calm and supportive space where you can explore at your own pace.

Together, we work to reconnect you with your inner resources, resilience, and potential for meaningful change—helping you thrive, even while life feels demanding.

Sports Psychotherapist

Alongside my work in education—where I have led on sports development and supported young athletes—I discovered a deep passion for psychology coaching and mindset.

Through coaching players across a range of sports, including specialist training as a golf psychology coach, I saw first-hand how confidence, motivation and focus shape performance. That experience sparked my commitment to sports psychotherapy.

Child Hugging Parent

Being a parent—and a step-parent—has taught me as much about life, love, and resilience as any professional role ever could. I know what it’s like to juggle responsibilities, care deeply for children, and navigate the balance between supporting a family and looking after yourself. These experiences give me empathy for parents and carers, and a real understanding of how their wellbeing affects the whole family.

For over 20 years, I’ve supported others—first as a teacher and school leader, and now as a counsellor, psychotherapist, and psychology coach. Working with young people, families, and school staff has shown me the importance of resilience, connection, and feeling truly heard.

In a past role as a school Mental Health Lead, I saw how a parent or carer’s emotional wellbeing directly shapes a child’s confidence, relationships, and ability to thrive. Stress, anxiety, past trauma, and life’s changes don’t just affect the individual—they ripple across families, classrooms, and communities. This inspired me to create a project that supports parents and carers, working alongside schools to strengthen families as a whole.

Through close work with schools, parent/carer counselling, support groups, guidance, practical tools, and a compassionate space to reflect, the project helps staff and parents feel grounded, confident, and resilient. Exploring attachment—the way early bonds shape relationships—is a key part of the work, helping both parents and children flourish. While this is project is still work in progress, the goal is clear: to empower adults so that children thrive.
